Based on an audit, the following areas have been identified:

  • Improve teacher’s skills, knowledge and confidence through the modelling of PE lessons by specialists for teachers
  • Increase range of sports and physical activities offered to pupils, aiming to identify, support and involve the least active children.
  • Increase participation in competitive sport by increasing inter and Intra School sports and competitions planned throughout the year
  • Increase the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity

Swimming:

At the end of Key Stage 2, the following will be reported. The number of pupils:

  • who can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • who can use range of strokes effectively
  • who can perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

At Manor Junior School, pupils have historically gone swimming in Year 3 and then again in Year 4. From our end of key stage 2 assessment of the number of children who can perform basic water safety and swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 meters, it is clear that this program has been unsuccessful. We are currently reviewing our swimming provision for the forthcoming academic year.
