Governors Pen Portrait:
Rita is a retired University Lecturer who has over 40 years experience in Nursing, Midwifery and Higher Education. She has just begun her 30th year as a school governor.
She is married with 2 now grown up sons who both attended Manor Junior School as children. Rita became a governor initially as a parent and is now a Local Authority representative.
Rita is Chair of Governors at Manor Junior School and has interests in all aspects of school life.
She has wide ranging experience with interest in Budget planning and monitoring.
SEND provision, safeguarding and looked after children. Monitoring achievement and the quality of teaching and learning.
Rita meets with the school council to hear the views of the children and learn about their views on school life.
Rita is also a governor at a nearby secondary school providing a useful link between schools.
Rita believes being a governor is demanding but it is also enjoyable and rewarding.
Shahanara is currently the Vice-Chair of the Governing Body at Manor Junior School. She joined as a parent governor in October 2013. She has two sons: one son attends Manor Junior school and the other attends Manor Infant school.
Shahanara has always been passionate about education and volunteering. She studied Sociology (BSc) and Gender Studies (MSc) and worked with children, young people and women whilst studying at University.
Shahanara is interested and very keen in helping the school achieve progress and achievement for all children through high expectations and dialogue.
She works as an Independent Consultant and Trainer, specialising in monitoring and evaluation for voluntary groups and organisations. For the past 12 years, Shahanara has delivered outcomes monitoring and other aspects of self-evaluation training to many individuals from groups and organisations and supported many organisations to develop their own outcome-focussed monitoring and evaluation framework. She is an experienced trainer and researcher with over 20 years of voluntary sector experience.
Shahanara is an active member of her local community and enjoys meeting people and organising local events and activities.
Julie Kemp is currently staff governor at Manor Junior School. She is currently SENCo and Pupil Premium Co-ordinator and has been a teacher at Manor Junior School since 2006. Julie's degree is in education and community studies (major) with TESOL (minor), she also holds post graduate certificates in education and NASENCo. Before becoming a teacher Julie had a management role in the leisure industry and gained knowledge of human resources through her training in management, craft training, interviewing and staff appraising. Julie has also worked as an auditor and therefore has an eye for detail in financial matters.
As staff governor she is keen to be involved in the overall management and governance of the school to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all children in order to help them meet their full potential. Julie is particularly interested in the resourcing of the school and how the use of these resources have a direct impact on children’s learning.
